Screening Test

Frequency (Adapted recommendations from USPSTF)

WHY?

1. Fasting Lipogram, Adults (18 years and older), Once every 5 years, Diagnoses Hypercholesterolaemia

2. Fasting, Glucose/ or HBA1C test, Adults, Once every 5 years, Diagnoses pre-Diabetes/Diabetes/Insulin resistance/Poor glucose control

3. Pap Smear, Females (16 years and older), Once every 3 years, Diagnostic for Cervical Cancer

4. Mammogram, Females (35 years and older), Once every 2 years, Identifies growths in the Breast which may be malignant

5. Colorectal cancer test, Adults (50 years and older): Colonoscopy and Sigmoidoscopy, once every 5 years; Faecal occult blood: yearly, Visualises polyps which may be cancerous

6. Prostate Specific Antigen, Males (50 years and older), Yearly, Good indication for Prostate cancer

7. HIV, Adults, Yearly/OR every time person engages in unprotected sexual intercourse. Should be repeated at 6weeks or up to 3 months due to latency of the virus

8. Bone Density Scan, Females (60 years and older), Yearly, DEXA scan picks up bone disease such as Arthritis

9. Glaucoma, Adults (40 years and older), Once every 5 years, If tested early could prevent what I known as ‘the silent thief of eye sight’

10. Full Body CT Scan, Adults over 21, Picks up any bone related pathology

11. Full Body MRI, Adults over 21, Picks up any muscle related pathology

12. Lung Function, Adults over 18 years, Provides a good foundation to compare with future lung related pathology

13. Thyroid Function Test, Adults over 18 year, Provides clear indication of functioning of thyroid hormones

14. FBC, U&E, LFT, Adults over 18 years, Picks up any blood disorders, Liver function and Kidney Function
